Proper washing of your human hair wig is key to maintaining its beauty and longevity. Follow these five easy steps to clean your wig effectively without causing damage.
Step 1: Detangle the Wig
Gently detangle your wig using a wide-tooth comb or wig brush. Start from the ends and work up to the roots to avoid breakage, especially for curly or wavy wigs.
Step 2: Wet the Wig
Fill a basin with lukewarm water and submerge the wig to wet it evenly. Ensure the water isn't too hot to prevent heat damage and reduce the risk of tangling.
Step 3: Apply Shampoo
Apply a small amount of sulfate-free shampoo, working it through from roots to ends in a downward motion. Avoid scrubbing or twisting. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water to remove all products.
Step 4: Condition the Wig
Apply conditioner, focusing on mid-lengths and ends. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes before rinsing with cool or lukewarm water. Avoid conditioning the cap to keep the knots intact.
Step 5: Dry the Wig
Squeeze out excess water gently—do not twist. Blot the wig with a microfiber towel and place it on a wig stand to air dry. Avoid heating tools until completely dry to prevent damage.
